“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” -Colossians 3:17
I have really been thinking a lot about these words of truth lately; I think sometimes as Christians, we get involved in too much. We fill our plate up and just keep piling on ministry after ministry as though somewhere we will eventually get to the place where we’ll be “SPIRITUAL” (dundundun)- I really think that maybe sometimes this is our goal.
I am convinced that God would rather have our “All in doing less,” than the leftovers of all the things that have stretched us too thin…Colossians 3:17 backs that up. Imagine what would happen if we emptied ourselves out all week, and then we got to Crosspoint and just gave God what we had left… Crosspoint would be dull…better yet, it would probably be non-existent.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that it takes “Us” to get this ministry going, but a ministry without passion is a ministry (I believe) that has missed something. I think as children of God, we need to learn to say no- it doesn’t make you any less spiritual; in fact, it makes you more obedient with your time with God. Rest in the Lord and make sure you balance your time- if you’re the one that keeps pouring out and never taking any in, then take some advice “quit pouring out.” By the time you get to a place that you have nothing left, it probably isn’t really even God that you are pouring out, its you, and no offence, but it’s not you that draws people in, its him.
So my advice to you today is this: never get to a point that you are giving somebody what you have left; instead give it all you’ve got in everything you do, even if that means cutting down on the number of things you do.
From me to you,
Christopher Reynolds
